About Us

Vision: To build a just, peaceful, inclusive and sustainable world.

Mission: To be the prominent ‘knowledge force’ clarifying issues, apprehensions and the well-being of those working in the realm of media, human rights and peacebuilding; and to provide scientific and unpretentious ideas, perspectives, information and investigation.

Background

The Centre for Media, Human Rights and Peacebuilding (CMHRP) is registered with the Companies House in the UK under the Company number 08809003.  The idea for this centre was mooted during the administrative meeting of the Media, Human Rights and Conflicts Commission at the 26th International Peace Research Association (IPRA) Conference held in Freetown, Sierra Leone from 27th November to the 1st December 2016.  Participants recommended that more emphasis be given to action-oriented projects for strengthening Track II and Track III diplomatic initiatives, rather than just organising conferences and meetings.

In line with their recommendations, the Centre for Media, Human Rights and Peacebuilding (CMHRP) has been set up as a not-for-profit and non-governmental policy, research, practice and learning institute of self-governing experts, academics, journalists and media practitioners active in the field of media, human rights and peacebuilding.

Our strength is our network—consisting of more than 100 media, human rights and peacebuilding professionals, scholars and researchers worldwide. CMHRP focuses more on project participation through networking and collaborations.

CMHRP’s strategic theme revolves around the idea of ‘using media and media research as the vehicle of the conflict transformation process’. Based on this premise, its strategy involves the following practices: Interventions, Capacity-building, Critical research, Transformative/activist research and Advocacy.

The Centre’s aims are to promote policy, research, practice and learning on these topics. Through distributing knowledge and information, CMHRP aims to provide a straight and honest opinion, with the dream of creating a just, peaceful, inclusive and sustainable world. In this manner, CMHRP expects to scale, reach and influence politicians, diplomats, policy makers, academics, media and civil society, and rightly respond to the emerging challenges and opportunities to achieve its vision.

The Centre for Media, Human Rights and Peacebuilding is clear and alert regarding the scale of its responsibility, and will carry it out to the best of its ability.
